Hello 2023 !

Since I am coming back to painting after a few months break, I just decided to keep it simple. I wanted to refresh our poetry box and I had come across this beautiful poem by Nikita Gill called 'Hymn for the future'. I thought it would make a nice subject to start off the new year.

Typically I like to paint from my own reference photos or from life and I am quite finicky about it. I spend a lot of time trying to find the most inspiring image to paint but I didn't want to fall in the trap this time. So I did what any normal person might do- googled for a sunrise image and went with the first result that turned up.

For some context, poetry box is just a shadow box frame in which I put up a painting+poetry. It hangs on the mulberry tree in our front yard and neighborhood folks can take a peek during their daily walks. I like the idea, I think they like it too. We have a wet spell for a few days, so I will install the piece outside in a week or so. But here we go, sharing the simple watercolor painting I have-

Hoping this year will see lots of art. Happy 2023 to to all!
Ok, I can't resist- If you have trouble reading the lines thanks to the bomb combination of my handwriting and photo quality, I found the poem here. You can check it out :)
